Anna Carter

Dr. Anna Carter is a Research Fellow at Northumbria University, she has extensive experience in designing technologies for local council regeneration programs, with a focus on creating accessible digital experiences using human-centred methods and participatory design. Her previous work involved using human-centred methods to deploy and analyse how interactive multimodal technologies could enhance topophilia within Swansea's £1.3bn city regeneration project. This initiative included deploying community co-created technologies such as tangible embedded interfaces and multisensory rigs to provide immersive views of future developments and disseminate location and event information. Additionally, Anna has collaborated on various projects exploring the redesign of design tools, teaching in blended spaces, and integrating scent devices into diverse contexts. Anna has also organised conferences, serving as General Co-Chair of the Festival of Ideas 2022, Local Chair for EICS 2023, and Accessibility Chair for EduCHI 2022 & 2023.  Her current focus spans contributing to the Digital Civics research capacities for early career researchers in the EU-funded DCitizens Programme and on digital civics, outdoor spaces and sense of place as part of the EPSRC funded Centre for Digital Citizens.
